Fort Ann 6 vs. Bolivar - Richburg 5
Fort Ann is crowned the New York State Class D
Champions

In what may
be considered one of the best
State Champiuonship games ever,
Fort Ann came back and then held
off Bolivar Richburg to capture
the New York State Class D crown
6-5 on Saturday afternoon at
Conlon Park in Binghamton.
The Cardinals trailed 2-1
entering the fifth inning when
Joe Foran drilled a three-run
homer to give Section II's
finest the 4-2 lead. Fort
Ann then took a 6-2 lead into
the bottom of the seventh
inning. Bolivar Richburg
rallied for three runs and with
two outs and a runner on third
sophomore pitcher
Robert Sprague struck out Jordan
Sloat looking to end the game
and give Fort Ann the title. |

CLASS A
Ichabod Crane 4 vs. Whitesboro

Josh Ingham left
the mound with a 4-3 lead in the fifth
inning but in the sixth Whitesboro
scored five runs and the Riders were
unable to rebound losing just their
second game of the season.
CLASS B
Saratoga Catholic 7 vs. Potsdam

Jeremy Furey hit a
ground ball single into left field and
Dylan Anderson ran more like a track
star than a baseball player from second
base to home plate to score the winning
run and advance Saratoga Catholic to
Saturday's State Semifinals in
Binghamton.
CLASS C
Greenwich 7 vs. Ticonderoga 3
Ryan Beck remained
undefeated on the mound by not allowing
an earned run and Greenwich advanced to
Saturday's State Semifinals in
Binghamton.
CLASS D
Fort Ann 10 vs. Chateaugay 1
Fort Ann scored
four runs in each the third andf fourth
innings and cruised to victory.

Monday June 7
CLASS AA
Guilderland 2 vs. Auburn 0
Eddie Pierce
pitched six scoreless inningsto lead
Guilderland over Auburn of Section III
2-0 and into the Stater Semifinals.
The Dutchmen, who only had three hits,
played small ball in the third inning to
score two runs. Connor Hurley drew
a walk, then Sean Geisel singles
followed by Matt Zanotta (above
sliding)being hit by a pitch. The
bases were then loaded for Luke Stark
who who drove a sacrifice fly that
proved to be the game winner.
Geisel scored the second run aon a wild
pitch.
CLASS A
Ichabod Crane 13 vs. Massena 2
Alex Mastrianni
pitched six innings giving up just four
hits and two runs as well as adding
three singles to lead Ichabod Crane over
Section X Massena. The Riders will
face Section III Whitesboro Tuesday 4pm
at Bellizi Field.
CLASS B
Saratoga Catholic 6 vs. Beekmantown 4
Brad Scammel had
four hits in four at bats scoring two
runs to lead Spa Catholic over
Beekmantown. DYlan Anderson went
2-4 with three RBI's for the Saints who
will take on Patsdam Tuesday at Bleecker
Stadium.
CLASS C
Greenwich 16 vs. Norwood Norfolk 0
Greenwich scored
10 runs in the sixth inning and Neil
Fryer held Norwwod Norfolk to just two
hits in his five innings pitched to lead
the Witches into the next round of State
Tournament play vs. Ticonderoga on
Tuesday in Saratoga.

class CC champion Cougars and advance into
theNew York State Tournament. |

You can not make mistakes and beat a good
team and that is exactly what happened
in the Class D Championship.
Germantown committed four errors in the
fifth inning and Fort Ann capitalized on
the mishaps scoring eight runs in the
inning on their way to a 12-1 victory.
The win gave the Cardinals their third
Section II championship in four years. |

Guilderland and
Saratoga each entered the playoffs as
big time underdogs and played as
underdogs in each game leading to the
championship. On Thursday there
was no clear cut favorite and the game
proved to be the closest of the
tournament.
Guilderland took a 2-0 lead in the
second inning and pitcher Vinny
Tamburello let up just five hits to lead
the Dutchmen to the Class AA title. |

RBI's and Saratoga Catholic rallied from
four runs back on two occasions to
defeat Granville and earn the Class B
